The port of Cordemais

The port lives at the rhythm of the seasons. During summer, the sailors' boats call at this arm of the Loire, far away of the inquisitive looks. These stops are greedy, educational, peaceful... Everyone enjoys in its own way of the port of Cordemais.

During winter, the fishermen of young eel invest the port. It is a festival of colours that is announced when the image of the boats reflects on the surface of the water. The blue and white hulls and the orange of adorn beatings get involved in the iridescent reflections of tides. From December to the middle of April, fishermen call at Cordemais during the migration of the sort which goes up the course of the Loire after having crossed the Atlantic Ocean.

Horse riding

8 annual racings including 2 PMU (pari-mutuel urban) meetings and 6 other meetings PMH (pari-mutuel racecourse) , and also a Tierce Quarté Quinté every two year take place at the racecourse of the Loire.

The pride of Cordemais owes its brightness to the investment of the volunteers which manage brilliantly the organization of the racings.

The national stud farms of Cordemais are also very renowned. They welcome every year between 200 and 250 mares, all types of races, coming from far away for the projections which begin in the middle of March and until July. In summer the station becomes a horse-riding school which welcomes the riders and their horses.

Everyone can notice that between Cordemais and the equestrian sport, it is a long story.

The power station of EDF

The iron castle of Cordemais dominates the village with its four red and white towers. It is not possible not to notice it. Working since 1970, the power station is totally integrated in the landscape of Cordemais.

The role of thermal power stations with flame is to adjust the electricity production according to the demand (consumption point). Thus, the quantity of energy produced varies every year. There are 15 power stations of this kind in France and their production represents 4 % of the annual electricity production.

The objectives of EDF, in Cordemais, are to make durable and improve the performance of production, to increase the production capacity and to limit the impact on the environment thanks to effective measures.

Environment

From the woody areas of the Sillon de Bretagne, the green runs, in a jewel case of greenery, lead you up to the marshlands of the Lot and of La Roche where the fauna and the flora bloom in these protected spaces. By continuing quietly, the walker will have the Loire at his feet.

But to discover all this and more still, it is better to go there yourself. Numerous hiking paths surround the commune.

The natural space which shall best know how to characterize Cordemais is, naturally, the Loire and its estuary which, for a long time, has influenced the activity of the commune: economic activity - from the fishing to the power station ; cultural animations - La Remontée du sel in " Estuaire Nantes < > Saint-Nazaire "... The nerve of the Loire-Atlantique is also for Cordemais a source of life.
